Outlook adds more spacing between letters

I have an email that has quite a bit of text and it is clear that outlook 2007 and 2010 add more space between lettesr tahn other email clients.

This is causing me a problem as it causes the paragprah to break onto a new line. This in turn messes the html email up!

Is there a way to ensure the text appears exactly like others?

just realised it wasnt actually the text that was so much at fault - more because of this!

Outlook ‘07 and Outlook ‘10 truncate the upper portion of all images higher than 1728px from the top-down

there are quite a lot of issues with html and email clients... I think one of the best solution to this is use third party providers such as mailchimp and campaign monitor.
if you insist on doing it yourself, campaign monitor has great resources in terms of what works and what doesn't with html and css.

http://www.campaignmonitor.com/resources/ especially check the "Guide to CSS support in email"

This site is able to take your html and try and make it as compatible as possible.  It will also let you know of anything that is likely not to work in certain email clients
