Is there a way to override the prefix number set on PE? The prefix is set at 100, but we would like to increase it somehow to 400, w/o providers intervention.

Thanks;

Unless you can crack the PE router and alter the settings, no, CE router can not force the PE router to take more prefixes ... it's a safety measure that is not meant to be settable from the remote side ...

OK... Does the customer need a bigger and better CE in order to have (say 1000) Prefixes advertised to it???

Please clarify, you're talking about getting Internet prefixes from the provider to your router?
Are you multi-homed? If not, why bother? If you are, we're not talking 1000 Prefixes, but rather 360k prefixes (continuously growing)
Usually, for single-homed customers, BGP is overkill. Get your default route and you're done ...

In case the CE wants to advertise more numbers of paths than provisioned prefix number on PE, will there be an issue?

Yes, PE will shut down the session either permanently (until manually reset) or for a set duration, depending on configuration ...

And there is no way out using bgp communities for it?

At least not with Cisco ... and I as an ISP wouldn't want to hand over the responsibly of my border routers to customers ;)

Also, please note that most (respectable) ISPs will have a prefix filter list limiting which prefixes you may send (or rather, are propagated to other peers and uplinks) ... which - btw- also aren't changeable with communities ...
