Default Printer Changes After Log Off 2008 R2

I have a client that everytime they log off the users log back in the default printer is set to xps printer. They arent using printer redirection we have the printer setup with group policy and they apply each time the users logs in do you have any ideas. Thanks.

If you use Group Policy there is no way to set Default printer.
Use GPP on Users to set default Printer & then use loopback.
You will get the desired result.

With using group policy to deploy printers there no way for users to set there defualt printers?

Jryals8900Author Commented:
So you cannot use Deploy Printer policy and have users set there defualt printer? You have to use  Group Policy Preferences under printers to apply the group policy.

Unfortunately not, you use Prefrences to achieve that.

Have a look at this:
http://www.grouppolicy.biz/tag/printer/

However, the catch is that Prefrences can be changed by users that means they can Right Click & say it not to be their default printer. But whenever the policy reach refresh interval it is applied again.

Well we want the users to able to apply there own default printer. The problem is they have to at every login set there defualt printer once they log off it set back to xps printer.

Are you suggesting we apply the hotfix? I thought it was only for server 2008 non r2.

When you set the default printer as Admin, does it remain after you logoff?

Yes.

AcklesCommented:
Can you check in the RDP Client settings what is different between Admin & other Users?
I mean the status of Printer in the Local Resources TAB?

AcklesCommented:
I don't know what printer you have, but I can confirm the behavior or lag. I also have the same problem, all I had was redirection disabled & then the printer stays however it does have the lag issue.

Let me know what you see....

Jryals8900Author Commented:
Everyone has redriection disabled since no user uses redirection.

Can you please post gpresult /v

Jryals8900Author Commented:
If was lag though wouldnt the administrator account be affected as well now i can confirm the lag but its the same on the administrator account it takes a bit for it to appear but it will appear and set the defualt same printer i always chosen is there for that account.

Alright, at least one thing is in the right direction.
Is it possible to get gpresult for both the accounts so we can see what is the difference in the environment?

I think we need to make something clear here... this is my understanding of your scenario, please correct wherever you think I don't make sense.

You have RDS, you have various users logging on it.
You want different users to have different printers as Default Printer?

If this is correct, then
Where are the printers installed? Are they all installed on RDS? & how?

Right they can choose which printer but if drops back to the loal printer which is xps.

They are installed on a print server and are deployed though group policy. Not though GPP but though the print server deploy though group policy.
