got a slightly weird one.
OS: Win xp home SP3
User had run disk cleanup and compressed the files. I created a new file on the dekstop and then it couldn't be deleted. It was showing as compressed but then I forced C: to uncompress.
Can't take ownership as it's XP home. It did have a long list of viruses but they've been removed now. Can't delete in safe mode either. Disabled AV. The next option is to pull the disk out, put it in another machine and take ownership/delete.

Is there something obvious that I'm missing that I can do.

You could use Unlocker to remove the file

Nice and easy. Good app! Even though it said there was no lock on the file, it deleted it for me. thanks again.
