How do I troubleshoot Internet Explorer? The event log shows Hanging application iexplore.exe
I have a Dell Optiplex 380 running Windows XP SP3.
This systems is configured with 2 monitors via a GEForce 9300 video card.
We have had problems with this computer where it would freeze while using internet explorer.
I completed a format and fresh re-load of the XP OS, drivers, and MS office. I applied all current updates, installed Norton Security, Norton Ghost, and MS office 2007. Within one of day of using this freshly built system, we are getting the same Internet Explorer problems where this application will freeze. Upon inspection of the application event log, i see the following event: Event ID 1002: Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Please advise on next steps. I am baffled.
Hi,
Try disable all plugin or add-ons on Internet Explorer. You can use Sysinternals Autoruns for this, it is a great tools, you can download it here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
On the Autoruns Windows, navigate to Internet Explorer tabs. Make sure IE is not loaded.
1. Disable all addons by uncheck the checkboxes, DO NOT DELETE yet. You may be like to remember what is checked and what is did not for you to restore is anything happen later on.
2. Then try to load the IE.
3. Is it still crash? If crashed then most likely something wrong with memory installation (what I experienced before). No need to continue futher steps, just restore back all the checked addons.
4. If not crashed then close it down for next round, this time, check all the Microsoft add ons and load the IE again.
5. If crash then, try to eliminate one by one by disselect the addon and load IE again.
6. Do this for the rest of add-ons.
7. When you find the culprit then make sure you turn on all the active add-ons like before you running this steps, but not the culprit one.
My suspicious is Norton add on for IE, but just do steps above first for confirmation.

JCimarron, I tried the IE8 script for 32 bit but now change in the problme yet.
Khairil, I tried the sysinternal autoruns utility and disabled much but have not found the culprit yet.
As a side note, I loaded firefox and firefox seems to be working without issue.

Due to a lack of time and access to further troubleshoot, I used the firefox browser which is wokring just fine.
