How to stop Windows Explorer in Win 7 stop calculate duration of video files?

Hi experts!

I have a Win 7 32 bits which make follow problem with Windows Explorer – I have a big folder in which have 700 MPEG2 files. And when I bourse then I get error that Windows Explorer crash (and after this there is connected problems) . I’m sure this is connect with attempt of Windows Explorer to calculate duration of files and to show more info about then.

So the question is – how to get list of files in Detailed style and to turn off this calculation of duration ? Or may be I should remove connection between .mpg file extention and Windows Media Center ? But how, I do not see way to remove connection, I do not want to point to other p[orgram, I hust want to remove it.

Thank you

If you right click in the top of the column (on the word Duration), you should be able to "Uncheck" the columns you do not want to display. If "Duration" is not listed there, click the "More" button, and deselect it there.....

Well, this is a option but I prefer better solution - I mean at all to not get info for video movies. Your attemp look to me that just will not show it, but probably it will be calculated and again there will be error

After error and due to remote connection with RealVNC I'm not able to see already started programs ..they ar ehere and working as I see in task manager, but I can access it.

That simply hides that column, which prevents Windows from extracting that data, which will speed up the browsing of those types of files.

You cannot tell Windows to NOT calculate just this piece of data, only to not display it which is almost the same thing really....

Whats the exact error? What other columns are to the right of "Length"?

Problem is caused by a corrupt codec

Close all apps and then run this fixit

Reboot computer and check.

Can also try new user account..

"Problem is caused by a corrupt codec"

You really shouldnt make such bold statements, as there is not even enough information to base that on.....

To johnb6767 and ded9

Well, actually the problem is really due to codec Elecard , it make the problem. After I change file extention it stop show error. But it contunie to show slow directory contect as to calculate 600 file's duration is not so fast, if file is with wrong MPEG2 format also problem may appear. And this is
dedicated video server created signal for TV channel I do not want at all it to do such job like calculate duration of files while it play in mode 24/7/365. His work should be only 1 - create TV signal and all codecs at all should be called only from 1 software - the one which create TV signal.

So thanks to both of you, finally I'll use solution to remove Lenght coloum. And also Type coloumn as i check with create file with .mpg which is not really MPEG2 file and with type coloum it produce error too. Without the coloumn all is fine
