A question about Kindle functioning

How does a Kindle download data? Do you have to pay connection fees? Please explain how this is different/same as computer downloading from internet, wi-fi, etc. For example, if I bought a Kindle, and I have Cox cable internet, would I have to purchase a different service to "connect" my Kindle? Thanks in advance.

    Accepted Solution

The WiFi kindle can get data over the USB port (plug it in & copy stuff onto it like a thumb drive), or over WiFi. You can setup an E-mail address with Amazon, and anything you send to that E-mail will get synced onto your Kindle.

You do not need to pay for any extra services to get data onto your Kindle beyond having a normal Internet connection. If you are connected to WiFi & purchase a book, it will just download fine over the WiFi connection for free.

If you get a 3G Kindle, you can get an E-mail address that will put data onto your Kindle & will charge you a few $$$ to send it out over the air.
