PRIV1-edb file growing

Can anyone tell me why the priv1.edb file would constantly increase in size when no mail is being sent.

it is growing very fast and stops when we stop the exchange services

    you can try changing the deleted items retention limit on the mailbox store and also doing a defrag of the database
    the combination of this should free up the space and limit its growth

    Adding to above, open up a committed log and see what records are adding up. Like any server is relaying emails etc.

    you can also use the exchange tools to check and see what mapi connections there are to the server it might not just be emails being sent but moved around and stored

    ExMon is the tool to show some of those details
