Query analyzer hangs on startup

when opening query analyzer when
it should pop up the list of servers to select
the application hangs and Beeps like a modal dialog is open
no message is displayed and whenever  you click on anything in the
analyzer it just beeps.

you have to kill it with task manager.
anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

What SSMS version(s) do you have installed on the Client computer?
Did you installed any SQL service pack for the tool itself? Remember they need updates as well.
Do you have a local host file?

You can at any time clear you SSMS server list by using acceped solution from link below:

Technicaly there is no "Query Analyzer 2005" but "SQL Management Studio 2005"



And still 2 answers are needed..did you applied any SQL Service pack on your client SSMS 2005?
Is there any VPN/Firewall between client computer and SQL server

This problem was solved by clicking on the top bar ,then maximizing and minimizing.
Very ANNOYING problem because it virtually locked the ability to use it up for hours.

I never found out what the message was.. but it persisted over system restart.
