Need advice on how to set up test environment for Oracle SOA

I need some guidance on how to go about setting up a Oracle development environment for SOA applications/composites using JDeveloper. I can set up a Linux VM using VMWare on a home computer pretty easily, but need some advice on which Linux version to use, what components I need to download from Oracle or elsewhere and how to configure/install.

It would be awesome if someone can point me to a step-by-step online resource on how to set this up.

I haven't used it, but I would think that Oracle's VM product would do what you are looking for:

They should have step by step instructions there.
