Outlook 2010 crashing at launch with exception code 0xc0000005 error

I have a windows 7 64 bit machine running Outlook 2010.  On launch Outlook starts to open and then gives error Microsoft Outlook has stopped working.  Windows checks for solutions, I was prompted for repair a few times and did that with no luck.  Opening in safe mode does not work.  Created a new outlook profile and get same error.  If I log into the machine as a different user, I can create a profile and without it crashing.  We can open the users mailbox from another computer as well and also webmail with no problems.  I have uninstalled Office and reinstalled.  I have completely deleted the outlook profile and still outlook will not open.

There is an error in the applications log -

Is this an Exchange environment? If so, have you deleted the .ost file?

I ve had this happen to alot of machine and the windows provile was corrupted. if you rename the profile while on as another user. when you start windows it will recreate the user profile. I put bad at the end of bad profile. This way you can go back to get data off bad profile after new one is created.

You may have some bad addin installed in Outlook.

Go to Tools > Trust Center > Addin to check for all the addins installed on the machine.
Disable any unwanted addin and it may help you to get this resolved.

Try renaming the following t Outlook folders to Outlook-OLD (with Outlook closed obviously)....

%userprofile%\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
%userprofile%\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Also, Rename the Following 2 reg keys to Outlook-OLD

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook

Sicne the profile is still intact in the registry here...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

It should rebuild the registry config, as well as the Profile Folders..... Course the PST will not be linked to it, but at least we can see if the error subsides...

I suggest you use SysInternals Process Monitor (free download from Microsoft) to track down what Outlook is trying to do when it crashes. You will see Registry keys it tries to open, files it tries to access, etc.

This usually gives very valuable clues as to what got broken and helps nail the issue.

Renamed all the folders/registry settings as stated by johnb6767 - gets to about 30% loaded and then crashed.

I installed sys internals, but don't see anything that is causing an issue.  It seems all of the items have success next to them.

I see, that makes things a bit harder...

But even with "SUCCESS" sometimes you can get clues - at least you know what the program is up to, if it talking to other components, what part of the registry it is working with... etc. Then you can compare that specific part with it's parallel version on other users' profiles, for instance.

Of course, if it seems to be just doing it's normal thing and then crashes... there's not much you can do. Perhaps check the integrity of your executables (if you have other computers with exactly the same software installed, see if the .exes and .dlls match exactly (checksums like MD5).

After trying several things - I gave up and renamed the windows profile, deleted the profile key from the registry, logged in as the user, clicked on outlook - it ran the setup for the first time starts to load, gets to 30% loading mailbox settings and then dies.  This is a completely new profile.  On the same machine, I logged in as myself and was able to create and open an email profile for myself.  This is so frustrating.

If I read your last message correctly, that crash at 30% is while Outlook is creating a new profile, not opening Outlook with a fully created profile as with your initial problem.

If this is the case, and this is a new (probably related) crash, then you could try repeating that process and using Process Monitor to check THAT happen in detail...

Sorry for not having any better suggestions... you're fighting a tough problem there.

Found the solution.  Uninstalled symantec and then ran command line outlook switches with elevated cmd prompt.  outlook.exe /nopreview /cleaviews and /resetfolders on the newly created windows profile.  Wasnt' sure which switch worked but outlook opened and loaded the users profile.

I then deleted the newly created windows profile - renamed the original windows user profile folder back to the users name from oldusername and edited the registry settings so that this folder would open for this user.  I tried to open outlook.  It crashed. After running the /cleanviews switch - the profile opened and we were back in business with the original windows profile.  I readded the pst files, etc and outlook is still running.

This was the solution that worked and I found it on my own.
