We have a single server Exchange 2010 environment, but unfortunately it requires some changes.
First off, the windows 2008 R2 server that it was installed on is also our Primary DC, secondly, it was installed as an enterprise edition server, when we only have licensing for standard. On top of that, exchange itself was installed with an MSDN key.
I have created a second server, and would like to transfer all exchange roles to it. I'm guessing I would more or less follow the same procedures as a exchange 2007 --> 2010 migration to make it happen smoothly. I would like to also implement Edge Transport, as we have the proper environment to make use of it.
If I'm thinking right, I have to perform the following :
Install all required pre-requisites on new server.
Install CAS role on new server. Transfer OWA, Outlook Anywhere and ActiveSync to new server
Install Hub Transport role on new server. Transfer mail connectors to new server.
Install Mailbox role on new server. Migrate mailboxes to new server. Create replicas and move Public folder database to new server.
Install Edge transport (on the perimeter), subscribe to new server.
As this is our living, breathing, critical email server, I just thought I would check with the experts before performing this... Any hints, tips, advice or suggestions would be great!
