Citrix Branch Repeater
Posted on 2011-10-11
We have Citrix Branch Repeaters at all sites across the WAN to accelerate all traffic back to the data centre.
They are SM83 Series 3 x64 (Windows 2008 R2) devices.
Quite frequently the users at remote sites complain of slow performance across the network when using Citrix apps (XenApp).
They say that it can affect logon and application use: ie: typing in Word doesn't display characters until 30+ seconds later. Saving a file can take a minute or more.
I have checked Edgesight and can see that logons are less than 30 seconds so I can't see a problem there.
Also, the Session Summary for a user/device that experiences this shows Network RTT is around the 30ms mark and spikes to 200m occasionally.
the ICA RTT is 30-100ms and spikes to 300ms occasionally.
When performing a ICA Session RTT report is show the avg Network RTT at 39ms, but the MAX is 3000....is that peak a problem, or normal?
ICA avg RTT is 59ms and MAX ica is 2635ms.
The up time of the repeater is currently at 36 days.
Do the branch repeaters need frequent rebooting like XenApp servers do? Since it's also a Windows device I was thinking this might be a possibility?
We've found in the past that this normally does increase performance, but I'd rather use as an absolute last resource. I can't find any information on Citrix website stating that they need to be rebooted frequently.
