SMART is a feature built into hard disks that collects lots of parameters like temperatures etc. There are thresholds set for those parameters, and once one of those thresholds have been passed, SMART is triggered and you are notified via the BIOS of the mainboard (provided SMART is enabled in the BIOS settings), or via a utility installed in your OS. Once you get SMART messages that means that the HD is about to fail or already failing. In most cases it is about to fail which gives you some time to get a new disk and replace it without data loss. But you should replace it asap.

    Accepted Solution

UNC error stands for “Uncorrectable Data: ECC error in data field, which could not be corrected”

However it is possible to remap these sectors.

You could use MHDD to diagnose and fix your disk errors.

    Hope this helps!
