you can issue a rescan of the hba from the ESXi command line or console.

But other functions such as hba reset and offline, online tests are performed as BIOS functions of the hba, which require you to restart ESXi server, and select the HBA BIOS after the server has POSTED.

e,g. CTRL-Q for a Qlogic hba.

you could unload the module driver, but I would not recommend it.

for completeness, this is one of the only commands available

esxcfg-rescan <options> <adapter>
-a|--add       Scan for only newly added devices.
-d|--delete    Scan for only deleted devices.
   -A|--all       Scan all adapters.
-u|--update    Scan existing paths only and update their state.
   -h|--help      Display this message.

but this just issues a rescan, or updates path states it does not reset.
