DNS Records for A Subdomain in our Internal Network

A client of ours has a primary email address of company.net. Mail flow is fine and working as expected. However, there is an engineering dept in the company that has a Linux-based mail server and they want to allow it to send email to the Exchange 2010 infrastructure. The subdomain is eng.company.net

They tried sending out an email and it got bounced back, claiming that the sender was not recognized. What do I need to do with DNS to make this work?

Have you added MX entries for elrond.eng.company.net to the zone file of your domain?

I have not added that entry. If that is the case, then I will need to add eng.company.net as a zone externally, correct?

GovvyCommented:
You would need to add MX for elrond.eng.company.net

That is the name of the actual server internally, - elrond. The Exchange server does not have its direct name published, so why would this one need to be?

GovvyCommented:
In that case you will need to change the return email address to be <apache@eng.company.net>:

Solved by adding MX records for the LInux mail servers.
