SQL replication subscriber cannot update text or ntext?

Hi all,

im getting this error
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Updatable subscriptions: The text, ntext, or image values inserted at the Subscriber will be NULL.

after some searching, ive come across some things saying subscribers cant update text ntext or image?
i think we use text a few times for large edits

is there a work around/different options for this?
we need to replicate text of greater length then 255 chars you see

    varchar(max), nvarchar(max),varbinary(max) can be used as replacements for these data types.

    does varchar max exceed 255 chars?

    varchar(max) is the replacement for text field in newer versions of SQL. Sure it exceeds.
