i have a Windows XP pro PC on a domain, the domain is a windows server 2003 domain, with about 30 other PC's attached to the domain. i recently found that i could not share a local printer from this PC (pc0025dt). what i mean is that i set it to share the printer, the printer shows up in the directory but other machines could not connect to it. the "check the spelling of the name" error would come up. so i tried to just go to the PC name in explorer i.e. "\\pc0025dt" so i could just double click the printer and add it that way. that didnt work, no other PC or server could find the PC (pc0025dt), so i did it by IP assuming it was a DNS issue, still no luck. i tried to ping pc0025dt from other PC's and servers and could not ping it, all time outs. here is the weird part, i can ping all the other PC's and servers from the problem PC (pc0025dt), i can even RDP into all the Servers with no problem from pc0025dt. i don't have any kind of firewall or antivirus software on pc0025dt, and the windows firewall is turned off. I flushed DNS cache on all machines, i've tried to set this PC to a ststic IP and tried to reach it and again no connection into pc0025dt are successful. i forced a new IP, still using DHCP to it, that failed to help. i even took a shot in the dark and replaced the NIC in it and went to yet another new IP and still no luck. i also moved the PC from one end of the facility to the other to bring it one hop from the server(i.e. only one switch inbetween) and swapped it with another PC that was not having these issues. (swapped, meaning i used the good PC's ethernet connection) that way i could rule out that there might be a device in between causing the issue. i saw online a guy had a similar issue, and he decided to go in and setup a continous ping and one by one stop services that he was unfamiliar with until he found one that was effecting it. that didn't work either, i didnt stop and start every service, just the few that would have been even remotely related to networking. i have no fricken idea what else it could be, please help.
