linked server between SQL Server in difd domain/countries etc

if 2 sql servers are across 2 domains/networks, what kind of security/authentication will be required to make the linked part happen? (other than sql authentication)

    you can still relay on windows authentication, i.e map the windows login between two domains.

    what about sql login?

    apart from the above, what about ports? anything else?
