How can I calculate the total of on column or one row in a spreadsheet like google doc or open Office

yes but how do you obtain a updated total at the bottom on a column every time you add an item?

For instance, if you have your list of values on column A and put the SUM formula on cell B1 for instance, it will sum all of the values that you enter on any row on column A, right?

When I choose SUMM from the drop down menu option I see a formula
I copy and Pasted the formula =SUM(F:F) at the bottom of the column
But I have this error message
error: circular dependency detected

ANy suggestion?
