Hi there,

Two questions:

1. we have installed a sbs 2011 server and set up the vpn. we would like clear simple instructions for setting the vpn idle logout for users from the default 20 min to at least an hour.
We have looked at this page and find it unclear (there is no sbs web app listed) - http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2009/06/15/how-to-configure-the-rww-timeout.aspx

2. we have set up mobile phones with the exchange server and (at the request of some users)would like to cancel the security pin requirement that the process set on the mobile phone if possible.

Thank You

The SBS-WebApplications page they are referring to is in IIS.  It's an MMC snap-in that controls internet information services.  this is actually referring to a timeout in Remote Web Workplace.  I would advise leaving that default there in case you have a user that connects to RWW from a public computer and forgets to log out.

if you are referring to the Windows PPTP VPN, that default timeout will have to be changed through RRAS policy or NAP policy.

Regarding the security seting on the smartphones, that is a default Exchange policy.  Open Exchange manager and change the Active synch policy.  to do this go to Organization config ->Client Access -> Active Sync Policy.  Selecet properties, and there shouldbe a tab there  that says password.  Select that tab then uncheck the "require password" checkbox.  have all of the smart phone users reboot their phones.  if there is still a pin applied, delete and re-create the account.

We found the setting in exchange for the activesync config Thank you. As for the remote client connection the set up is a VPN to the server which sounds like the pptp vpn you say needs to be set through RRAS or NAP policy. Can you be a bit more specific on where to find that setting? We want to change it from 20 min to 30 or so....

Thanks -
