Sometimes the Windows Easy Transfer program can't establish a connection between Win XP & Win 7 computers.
I perform a lot of migrations of data from old computers to new computers at our customer offices.
Sometimes while I am trying to use the Windows Easy Transfer (WET) utility the Windows XP (old) computer is unable to establish a connection with the Windows 7 (new) computer. This has been a consistent problem that I have had around 25% of the time when I attempt to perform these Windows Easy Transfer migrations both in our customers offices and in my office.
I spend quite a bit of time troubleshooting and trying to resolve these issues and do things such as disabling (both the built in Windows and any third party) firewalls and antivirus programs on both computers and making sure that the network settings are correct on both computers.
However most of the time I am unable to resolve the issue so that the Windows Easy Transfer will be able to establish a connection and complete.
I am then stuck using a manual file copy and have to completely reconfigure and reset up the target Windows 7 computer.
What steps can I take to fix these Windows Easy Transfer connection issues so that I will always be able to use the Windows Easy Transfer utility?
