I tried useing pathping and the documentation lists a couple of command line switches for QOS but in my windows 7 pathping command I don't see that option. Winxp had the -P Test for DSCP PATH connectivity and -R Test if each hop is RSVP aware and -T Test connectivity to each hop with Layer-2 priority tags

 With xp using the -P and -R switches I get "Could not send packet error code is 10013" and if I try the -T I get "Could not register as a traffic control client. error code is 110"

Is there another utility that I can use to test where layer 3 voip may be losing DSCP markings? We don't use layer 2 cos so I don't thing -T would have helped anyway.

Hi,

If you use an extended ping from a cisco switch or router you can place the DSCP value in the Type of service field (under the extended commands option).

ping
Protocol [ip]:
Target IP address:
Repeat count [5]:
Datagram size [100]:
Timeout in seconds [2]:
Extended commands [n]: y
Source address or interface:
Type of service [0]:
Set DF bit in IP header? [no]:
Validate reply data? [no]:
Data pattern [0xABCD]:
Loose, Strict, Record, Timestamp, Verbose[none]:
Sweep range of sizes [n]:
0

For EF DSCP 46 the TOS would be 184?

Here's the mapping you will need.  "=" means something like "maps to" or "is equivelent to".

ef = dscp 46 = 101110 = tos 0xb8 (184) = ip prec 5

af31 = dscp 26 = 011010 = tos 0x68 (104) = ip prec 3

af32 = dscp 28 = 011100 = tos 0x70 (112) = ip prec 3

cs3 = dscp 24 = 011000 = tos 0x60 (96)  = ip prec 3

You'll want to use the decimal tos values (in parenthesis) for your e-pings.
