Pass word a zip file

how do you password protect a zip file...?

~Right click on the Folder you want to secure
~Go to 'Sent To"
~Click on "Compressed (zipped) Folder"
~Doubleclick on the newly created zip file
* Right click anywhere on the white space and click "Add a Password..."

we use win RAR
although it asked me to set a default password, it did not ask for it on opening it subsequently.
what program do you use?
ahhh...with winrar do the following


~right click on the file/folder you want to zip...
~Add to archive
~advanced
~set password
i just can not get it to ask me for a password....

what zip software do you use?

my server sems to have only that which came with windows....

i can not get either to password.   the RAR asks to adda default password.. i do... but it doesnot require it on opening...

not sure what to do...
ok so here is the deal.....
it is hysterical.. too...

it does work... i just did not know how.....

the zip file opens with out a password, but you can not view, or download the file...

i did not know that..... i was assuming it just would not open  or ask me for a password in order for it to open....

so thatnks... you were on the money
