We have BES 5 server running on windows 2008 r2 standard ( english language ). We need to install the chinese simplified language pack to resolve a problem where forwarded emails from a blackberry dont display the chinese characters properly.

My problem is this.. I have the correct language pack for 2008 r2 ( the full 2.3gb one ) but when i look at the option for installing the chinese pack from the dvd is just says, cannot install this language pack!.. see screenshot.jpg

until i get this installed, ive got erroring backberries!

I'm totally stumped..

has anyone got any ideas please???

Is this LP downloaded from Microsoft? And does it have the same build version like your Windows?

They don't show properly WHERE? the language pack is only for changing the servers settings.  It has nothing at all to do with users that are connected to the server.
are you running the server as a workstation..

Yes downloaded directly from microsoft.... We have been told by RIM that this LP pack is needed in order for the blackberrys to display the chinese characters correctly. Basically you can write a mail on a bb in chinese characters fine, but when you recieve one and then forward it to another recipient, the forwarded mail displays incorrectly on their BB.

Personally, I thought he LP was just to change the UI of windows... and not have any other effect...

The server is running as a proper server , the only app on it is BES v 5

I got the download from here ( http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=1246 ) and downloaded the full 2.3gb ISO.. the server has Xeon processors so downloaded the x86 version not the IA one.

Yes that is for the CLIENT only.. i.e. if you recieve the file in Outlook, you need the language pack files in order to read and reply to the message.. the server doesn't care it is just a go between.
you need the amd64 language pack. it will not install the x86 (32 bit) version

Through investigation, the pack provided from the vlc website was the correct one.. you need to match the exact build number to your own w2k8 installation
