Microsoft Defender warnings

I have suddenly started getting popup messages and flags from my Win 7 Action Center that say "..potentially harmful software detected".  When I click the Details button, Windows Defender says "No unwanted or harmful software detected.  Your computer is running normally."

This is getting very annoying, just started a couple of days ago, I have excellent protection including Kaspersky Anti-virus, Malwarebytes, and Ad-Aware running, so I can't imagine why it keeps telling me there is a problem and then that there isn't.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

    Accepted Solution

As you have your own antivirus suite, you should turn off Windows Defender.

The conflict is probably having two virus programs monitoring your laptop.

    Assisted Solution

Use Microsoft Security Essentials with Windows 7, it works gr8 and also bypass Windows Defender.

Well, I can turn it off, true, but nothing I know of has changed recently.  Windows Defender and Kaspersky and the others have all been running for almost 2 years now, so why might I suddenly start getting these messages?

The real puzzle is why the Action Center thinks there is a problem and Defender doesn't.

Uninstall kaspersky and monitor the computer..

Sorry, but I'd be more likely to uninstall Windows.  Kaspersky works perfectly, Windows works sometimes.

Apparently there isn't an obvious answer to why these messages are suddenly popping up with contradictory information, but I'll just turn off the windows stuff to get rid of them.  Thanks to microsoft for making a system that contradicts itself.
