IE8 Crashes with jQuery

Hello,

I have recently begun using jQuery for my website, and my users are reporting that IE8 crashes at random.  I've determined that it ONLY crashes when I include the jQuery library(ver. 1.6.2).
Are there any known errors with jQuery 1.6.2 when using IE8 ?
I need to get to the bottom of this because the whole reason I'm using jQuery is for the cross-browser javascript compliance.  Any help would be great!  thank you

Hi,

Does it crash when the file is just included? or when you are actually running some jQuery?

Hi Chaseivey,

Yes, there are known issues with jQuery 1.6.2 and IE8.  Most have found a resolution by reverting back to jQuery 1.5.2.  Here's the article

Thanks guys.

mrGreen:  yes. it happens when i simply include the file.  Whether or not I run any jQuery.

Tehzar: I thought so, because I know my code is tight. Believe it or not, I think I actually found the bug in the jQuery file.

I went to this link : https://github.com/jquery/jquery/commit/5c4a9cc001fcd803efa65ff95571c72cbdafbe69

And then I changed this line of the jQuery file:

. . . ,m=c.getElementsByTagName("body")[0],o=c.createElement(m?"div":"body"),p={visibility:"hidden",width:0,height:0,border:0,margin:0},m&&f.extend(p, . . .

After 'margin:0', I put ',background:"none"'

then i tried it all again.

Seems to have fixed the crashing.  I'm gonna give it a few days and check.
