now where can I have a record of the files that were sent

C:\inetpub\mailroot\Queue

.eml files are sent and deleted

C:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup

.eml files are sent and deleted


everything gets deleted so I cant find what has been sent

now where can I have a record of the files that were sent

Turn on SMTP logging

Even though you are using IIS7, your SMTP settings are set in IIS 6.

So Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> IIS 6 -> Then Click on the appropriate "Virtual Server" and right clicking, choose Properties.  Enable Logging is at the bottom, and you will be able to choose logging formats, log locations, and what properties you want logged, etc.

I recently went to 'advanced' and checked off all the items

how can I get the most information
is there a difference between
w3c extended log format
iis logfile
ncsa
odbc


in providing the most information
so I can actually understand it

Also, here are some troubleshooting guides.  Don't be put off by the references to Win 2003, it's just that IIS 6 originally came on 2003.
