How to deal with legal issues in website development?
Posted on 2011-10-14
I'm having a problem which I guess could be considered as legal one. I was asked by a friend to design a website for somebody (friend of friend)... I guess you know what I mean.
I complete the website in a week (May 2011) since then he has not paid the rest of his payments ... claiming that I'm also supposed to take pictures from his products and also do the data entry. In the beginning of work, I explained that I wouldn't do any data entry or taking picture so I introduced a friend who is a photographer .. however about few weeks he ran away and didn't come back!
Then I introduced somebody to take care of remained pictures and also data entry. After 5 months I sent him again the bill per his request and he claims that he must deduct the expenses for the data entry from the bill I have sent him!
I understand it was my fault that there is no any documents/paper signed by both partiues but at the same time I did contact with different companies which offer website design service and they confirmed that they would not take responsibilities over data entry or imaging.
I'm thinking of take this to small claim court. Can somebody give me some advice and let me know if I can win the case?
Also, I am hosting his site (free of charge for 1 year). Can I shut it down?
