Exchange Server & Redundany

novice @ IT

I currently am running 1 Exch Srvr 2003

If my DC goes down so does my Exch Srvr 2003. Is it a good practice to have your Exch Srver as a BDC as well?

Also is it possible to have 2  Exch Srvrs online in the event one goes down the mirrored server steps in.

Again a novice be gentle thanks

Running exchange and pdc/bdc on the same server is fine unless you have a large network, which I don't think you do.

You can not replicate private message stores natively.  You need something to provide replication such as a cluster setup.  Personally I like doubletake (poor mans cluster).
