asked on

how to setup 2 outlooks on 2 seperate pc on a single gmail account.

I have a situation need some advise.  I have a gmail account, and an laptop A that use ms 2003 outllook.  I get my email from outlook, read, store, create new email etc.

Now I have a 2nd PC, want to do the same, but just want to be "read" only.  that means only read the gmail (without change the gmail status  - remain in Unread/new folder).

is this something we can set this up either on outlook on PC2,  or can setup someting in Gmail

thanks

what is IMAP on the 2nd PC?

the first approach suggested by thinkpads_user, I can undrestand.

just need to know what is the IMAP setup on 2nd pc.
do you know is there is a methods how to setup IMAP on 2nd pc so can access (Leave mail on server) with gmail.

thanks

On the second PC, does the user wish to use Outlook?  or does the user wish to use Gmail? Gmail has lots of capacity, so you have leave mail in both places. In that event, no need to use IMAP (that I can see). ... Thinkpads_User

on the 2nd PC, user does want to use Outlook.
so I do need to knkow if IMAP is going works for me.  if so, what are the parameters to setup IMAP.

by the way, your first suggestoins of using outllok > tool > email account

Accounts to "Leave Mail on Server" (part of Account Properties) and then clean it up in Gmail when done

above does NOT works.  it will read the inbox of gmail. then mark all the inbox messages as "have read" marker.  so when I tried to read it by the 1st PC (using outlooks),  the email are not retrieved.

Need continue help.  thanks

>>> above does NOT works.  it will read the inbox of gmail. then mark all the inbox messages as "have read" marker.

I don't know if this is an un-changeable feature of Gmail. If any "rread" of Gmail must mark it as no longer downloadable, then the second PC would have to use Gmail instead of Outlook.

See if you can mark messages as "unread" in Gmail (although that would be messy).

Ultimately it seems now better to one PC with Outlook (leave mail on server) and then use Gmaail for everything else. .... Thinkpads_User
You can remark Gmail as unread. See:  http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=12516

However, this ultimately will be messy, so I suggest just using Gmail except for one machine.

So as not to appear coy, I use a small email vendor to collect my email and it is never marked "read", so I can download it on multiple computers until I am done with it.  ... Thinkpads_User
instead of using pop.gmail.com use imap.gmail.com this will leave the messages on the server.
use imap, that way you always have identical copies of email on all the pc's
