Working with oulook and 8gb .PST files? Yes its going to be slow. Not much you can optimize really.

Dont use PST over network, ALWAYS local file only.
Move as much email as you can to archive pst file and only load that PST when you need to search it. That WILL speed it up a lot.

We read about separating the PST file into various.  That is creating PST file for each area like if we have 5 companies and each companies have customer, providers and staff, create a PST for each company

What is your opinion?

Ramante--I do not think a .pst file of 8GB will be a major problem

But making it smaller should help performance

To summarize on what has been recommended here, in order to optimize Outlook 2007, we should do the following:

- Create multiple PST files
- Disable Add-ins
- Compact PST files
- Desktop Search Indexers
- Disable RSS feeds in Outlook
- Reset Outlook cache files

Note we are not on a network, or using exchange; this totally on the PC.

Will this cover what we need to optimize Outlook?

Please advice

Ramante--
"Will this cover what we need to optimize Outlook?"
Add run scanpst on your PST files to see if there are any corruption issues.
Certainly no guarantee, but should do most of what is possible.  And this assumes you are not getting error messages when you run Outlook.
