How can I give everyone permissions to download all documents on a SharePoint 2010 site?

How can I give everyone permissions to download all documents on a SharePoint 2010 site?

Currently we have several Microsoft Office documents posted on our SharePoint 2010 website.

The problem is that only the domain administrator can download or check out these files. None of the other users can download or check out any of these Office files.

What do I need to do to give all users the right to download and check out these SharePoint 2010 documents?

You need to grant read or contribute permissions to "all authenticated users". Do that by adding "all authenticated users" to the Reader or Contributor group. The permissions should be inherited down all levels of the site, unless the config has been changed to alter the default behaviour.

you can do that by channging the permission of that group whose users you want that they can download & check out to contribute on the site collection's site permissions.

Can someone please give me more detailed instructions on how to do this (instructions along with screenshots would be the best option for me).

I am very new to using SharePoint.

Does anyone else know of any other useful websites that provide good SharePoint training or step by step instructions on how to perform common SharePoint tasks?

You should get yourself a book like SharePoint Shepherd which is specifically for common end user tasks.

There is also a website of the same name
