Check this once, if it was not a success then check for a 3rd party tool.

Use PortReflector, which is a tool designed to accept TCP connections on a configured port and reflect them to another host or port number.

i am trying to run XAMPP and when i try and start the ftp server it says its already in use by another ftp server..
i dont have another one installed?
How do I get round this?

Under File Sharing in System Preferences, look at Options and make sure the default FTP server is disabled.

yes it was filesharing... disabled and all ok!
