Can Merge Replication and Mirroring Co-Exist?

I have a requirement to provide both Merge Replication for distributed processing, i.e. to POS Terminals, but also need to Mirror the master database in case of failure.

We do perform backups also, and the client cannot afford the regular HA options like clustering.

Has anyone tried to impletement both technologies on the same databases?  Does it work?  Are there any caveats I should be aware of?
