    Accepted Solution

So long as you log off cleanly, nothing. Windows is cleaver enough to know you logged off. You can do no harm.

    Assisted Solution

Even if you shutdown or reboot, the updates will continue to install. The shutdown or reboot will usually just take longer as it will have to finish the process.

    Assisted Solution

The windows update process is installed as a service. Services can be run when no one is logged on on a server or workstation. Thismeans that you can run all kind of software even without nobody is logged on.

This means that the windows update process keeps running (and installing updates) when you are not logged on. Be careful: depending on your settings the WU process can reboot your computer automatically. Sometimes this is not appreciated.
