Can I migrate Sharepoint Services 3 to Sharepoint 2010

Hi.  I've got Sharepoint Services 3.0 installed on a windows 2003R2 server.  I'd like to migrate it to a 2008R2 server running the current version of Sharepoint.

Can I do this directly?  If so how?

I've seen comments about copying over the Database and also saying that I need to migrate to SP2007 as a middle step.

See. http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/Q_26841468.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+10+3+30+migrat+sharepoint

Yes, you can upgrade directly to SP 2010 by doing a database attach method.  Here are some resources.  They are titled upgrading to Foundation, but it works the same when going straight to SharePoint server 2010.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh315920.aspx

You will basically install SharePOint 2010 on yoru new server(s), create a new farm, create your web applications to match what you have in wss, backup your current wss databases, restore them to your new sql server, attach the restored databases to your 2010 web apps through central admin.
