OpenManage Server Administrator SMTP Settings not working

I have several servers that are configured with Dell OpenManage Server administrator and I'm trying to configure the SMTP server settings. I have a relay configured for the IP range on an Exchange Server in a  different domain in the same rack with the equipment I'm trying to send the emails from. I know the relay is working because I have another application that it works just fine for on the same server and several others. What am I missing with the limited OpenManage SMTP settings?

I get the error:

The e-mail message was not sent to the recipient: E-mail address may be invalid or SMTP server setup may be invalid.

Is OpenManage trying to authenticate when it doesn't need to? Any suggestions appreciated.

what version of exchange server ?

If it's Exchange 2007/2010, you'd need to configure Exchange to allow applications to relay email, like this article.

For Exchange 2003, its authentication with username / pass

It's 2010...the relay is already working with several other applications in the same rack. I changed it to the Exchange Server authentication method in the article you sent but it's the same deal. All other applications work fine from the same server...just not OpenManage.
did you restart the transport service after making the changes
Microsoft Exchange Transport.

Yep. Very strange...almost like OpenManage is trying to authenticate or use a different port.
Did you run these 2 scripts?
cscript dellalert.vbs testemail
cscript dellalert.vbs setup

This is an additional cost...I have already configured some batch scripts to do something along the same line. The built in email feature just appears to not work. I'm not even sure the email feature does anything other than send out images of the configuration pages.
