Visual Studio Express sp 1 failed to install correctly, now won't go away

I attempted to install VS Express 2010 onto an older machine. After install, the system attempted to install service pack 1 for VS Express, but it failed half way through installation. After a reboot, it attempted to install the service pack again, it failed a second time. Now whenever I attempt to use an Office product the attempted install pops up everytime, and fails everytime.

Using Revo uninstaller I removed all visual studio products from the system, hoping to catch the bandit. The service pack install is still popping up every time I use Office.

Any other ideas?

The machine is running XP sp 3.
