Video recording question

I have a Sony DCR-HC21 Digital Video Camera Recorder, I know I need to step it up to the 21st century, and I wanted to make DVD's out of the recordings I have gotten from my camera, the question is really how do I do this?  I went to the local electronics store and was told that I needed DVD Maker USB 2.0 by KWORLD.   I purchased this and now I'm thinnking that I do not need this?  I also purchased a sony MRW62E-T1 (12 in 1) multi-card reader/writer and I'm also thinking I do not need this as well.  Lastly, my neighbor installed a software called Sony Vegas Pro 10 on my laptop and I'm wondering if I can just run everything of from this software?

Can you let me know what I need to do to move my videos from my recorder to DVD?  I don't know much about this process.  I'll probably be getting a new camera fairly soon as well and I'm assuming this process will get much easier.

Your camera supports a firewire interface, so all you need is a firewire port on your computer (Sony calls this "i-Link") and software to edit and write the DVDs -- Vegas will do this nicely, as will the built-in Windows Movie Maker.

So all you NEED is a firewire port and cable.

If you need to add a firewire port to your PC, just get an add-in PCI card like thsi:

Your camera may have come with the appropriate cable -- if not just get the length you need here:

Thanks for the info!

Would you know what I would need if I have a laptop and not a pc?

You still need a firewire port.     As long as your laptop has a PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot you can buy one for that slot.
