Smart Array Failed Battery

The "Smart Array E200i Controller on System Board" on our HP ProLiant ML350 G5 running Windows Server 2003 is reporting the Accelerator battery status as having failed and that the Accelerator is disabled.

The server is still operating however we notice there seems to be delays opening files. Is this due to that failed battery disabling the accelerator? Thanks. (I've got a replacement battery but have never replaced one.)

I wouldn't expect opening files to be much slower, after all when the battery is dead all the cache is read cache since write caching is disabled. You would normally get slower writes such as saving files, especially if RAID 5. There is some writing when reading of course, the last accessed date may be written to the file header.

To replace the battery remove the cache module, unclip the plastic shroud I think.
