Windows 7 "Get Programs"

In windows 7, there is a menu in programs and features to "Get Prgrams from the network." How do you publish applications for users to see and be able to install from this directory?

Control Panel\Programs\Get Programs

Are you sure this is what this program does?

CanusRufus--I asked that question since this is what "Get Programs from the network" does:
"If your computer is on a network (such as an internal corporate network) that offers programs that you can add, you can install programs from the Control Panel. You can open this directly with this shortcut."
You would add programs to the Network by installing them on the Network.  Then they would be seen by "Get Programs from the network".

Qustion: But how do you install to the network?

John6767, thanks for the info, but is there a way to list applications/packages in this directory without using GPO?

OK,
yes, if I install a program as a network user with admins rights it'll install the application from a nwtwork share.
The question still, other than Group policy can applcations be published to this directory for end-users to be able to see and install?

CanusRufus--I think you do not "publish" an application but rather install it so users can see it and install it using Get Programs.

Install it where?

CanusRufus-- My understanding is that you first install it on the network per SICS post here http://www.computerproblems.org/forums/networking/15862-how-install-program-network.html
Then use Get Programs to install from the network to individual computers.

For jcimarron: Per technet,

Publishing to users

When you publish an application to users, the application does not appear as installed on the users' computers. No shortcuts are visible on the desktop or on the Start menu, and no changes are made to the local registry on the users' computers. Instead, published applications store their advertisement attributes in Active Directory. Information, such as the application's name and file associations, is exposed to the users in the Active Directory container. The application is then available for the user to install by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or by clicking a file that is associated with the application, such as an .xls file for Microsoft Excel. For more information, see Publish an application and Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
