I am getting AOFO error on backup Exec 2010 sbs and I do not have AOFO option checked

- AOFO: Initialization failure on: "System?State". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
V-79-10000-11233 - VSS Snapshot error. A Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot is already running on the target computer. Only one snapshot can run at a time.  Try running the job later.

Please do not post articles from symantec as I have gone through them and they have to deal with this error when running BESR and backup exec.
I am only running backup exec on SBS 2003 sp2.
The server has 4 gigs of ram here is a screen shot of the error and the AOFO option unchecked and the services showing that the VSS is in manual mode

Out of curiousity, if you select to us AOFO, with the job run without error? Also, have you tried unsing Windows Backup to backup the system state? If so, was it successful? I believe in 2008, the VSS service is required to backup the system state.

On the server that this error is generated on, run "vssadmin list writers" from a command prompt. All should say "stable".

That may be where your problem lies. I checked one of my servers. The VSS service is set to manual, just like yours. when I run the command, I get the following results:

Here is a link on re-registering certain dll's when your list writers comes up empty.

If that doesn't work, here is another solution:
To fix this problem do the following:
1. Backup the follwing regkey: HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftEventSystem{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}Subscriptions
2. Erase the regkey
3. Reboot.
4. Verify that things are working by running "vssadmin.exe list writers".
