Microsoft Outlook started requesting the POP/SMTP password to be entered/saved even though it was already populated in the password field

Today  several of our systems runing Microsoft Outlook are requesting to have the POP/SMTP email password entered.  All of these systems had the email password entered and saved in the past and were working just fine last week.  In fact the email password was already entered in the password field of the "Enter Network Password" dialog box and hidden behind ********.  If a user does not change the password at all and just clicks the "save this password in your password list" button and hits the OK button, email send/receive starts to operate again.

The effected systems so far are running XP, Vista and Windows 7.  And Outlook versions 2003, 2007 and 2010.

I would like to figure out what is causing this and what can be done fix it without having to touch each computer to click that check box and hit ok.  I'm worried that users are going to starty trying out passwords and therefore changing what is already in that password field - making it much slower to get them fixed.

Thanks if you read this.  Disregard.  Our email host is having problems with their email servers so the issue is not with our workstations.
