windows XP will Not log off or shutdown
I have three different users with different PCs that when they select "log off" or "shut down", their PCs will NOT log off or shutdown. Windows does nothing, just sits there when you select shutdown or log off. Any idea's where to look to see what is causing this?

the command sets machine to shutdown, the /f commands it to force application termination, the /t dealys the shutdown for 3 seconds ;)

viruses can very well be the cause of your issues as they hide applications they use, like iexplore.exe etc.

the shutdown command will confirm if it is an app that is running in the back-end

Thanks everyone, this didn't do anything: shutdown /f /t 3
I sovled the problem. All three PC's had 1 software installed on all three, even though the GUI was closed, the software was still running in the background. When I closed that process, and then loged off, I was able to log off. Thanks everyone for your help.

the shutdown command just confirms that there is an application hanging in the background in no way should this ever be considered a solution, simply a test to find out a cause
Glad your demon is gone!

To bad no one else helped me with my other question.
I have an android phone, galaxy S2, and I can't believe there isn't an app in this world that will do the following (which all blackberry's have built in).
at night, I need to set my phone to allow the ringer to ring if someone calls me, allow txt messages to be audible, and silent all email accounts, as I don't want them to wake me up as I get tons of emails in the middle of the night. If you can help me with this, I will create multiple questions for you so you can get the deserved points :)

have you tried Kies?
Glad we could help with this one. Not sure about the other one. I use a cheap solution. I leave my Motorola backflip phone downstairs at night. :)
If you are like the select few that still have a land line you could forward the cell to it at night. That would take care of the calls but not the txt messages.

No I haven't, but it looks like it's software for the comptuer only? I'm looking for something for my phone.

it's not for android OS.
From their website. http://www.samsungapps.com/faq/getfaqList.as#4
"Samsung Kies is a software program for your PC which enables you to sync your Samsung phone with your computer.
Kies enables you to sync your phone's calendar and contacts with Microsoft Outlook, download pictures and text messages from your phone and reformat videos from your computer so they run on your phone.
NOTE: Samsung Kies does not support Android OS phones."

I do know this, that I can manually go into each mail client settings and turn off the notifications, so I can do that, but that's a waste of time to do that for all mail accounts, every night and every morning.
Just makes no sense why they wouldn't add a profiles section to do that with a click or 2.

lol, kies gets installed on your pc and allows communication between your mobile galaxy s2 and your windows or apple OS
