"Cannot Sort By this Field" - Outlook 2010 - Custom Field

HI, I have made a custom field in Outlook in my tasks using a formula. The formula is using a iif to pick dates or text. So the field has dates or the word "None". I would like it converted to a datefield and then sort by it.
I have tried Datevalue(....) and it seems to work. But when I try to sort it Outlook says "Cannot Sort By This Field."
I really want to use this field to choose which Task to do next.

Hope it will work for you.

Get free NFR key for Veeam Availability Suite 9.5

Veeam is happy to provide a free NFR license (1 year, 2 sockets) to all certified IT Pros. The license allows for the non-production use of Veeam Availability Suite v9.5 in your home lab, without any feature limitations. It works for both VMware and Hyper-V environments

I would like to leave this open a while longer. Seriously if I had wanted it closed I would have closed it.
Maybe someone will see it. It is a question that relates to common topics. Outlook, and Programming should have many people viewing it. And it is one that would be VERY benificial to me now and years from now. So a couple of months is nothing.

You cannot change the datatype to date as long as you have values of  "None" in your computed field.

You can have Date values and NULL values, but no text values.
You could either use a "bad" date (I.E. 1/1/1800) or null if you want to stick with dates.

f you convert the dates to strings then you COULD use "NONE".  The only way dates are sortable as string is if you change the format to YYYY/MM/DD (4 digit year followed by 2 digit month followed bu 2 digit day).

There are workable solutions, it is up to you if they fit your needs.

No time right now.

I would love to know a way if you can explain. I don't care so much about the word "none"  as much as I want to sort by a custom date field and to have some without real dates.
I want a custom field because I am trying to use iif to choose the latest of two other custom fields.

Task           Answer                Custom 1         Custom 2
Task 11                                   None                None
Task 3                                     None                None
Task 2       01/12/2012            None                 01/12/2012
Task 12     01/13/2012            01/13/2012       01/14/2012
Task 1       01/20/2012            01/20/2012       01/20/2012

Thanks so much for you help.
