No.  Tracking requires an active internet connection as well as active GPS.  You could only track the last place it was powered on.

No because tracking is made possible by the GPS on the phone (and the app installed to track). If its off, then no GPS.

Free Tool: Subnet Calculator

The subnet calculator helps you design networks by taking an IP address and network mask and returning information such as network, broadcast address, and host range.

Right now, I think this technology is only available in the Military.

Yes of course it is possible to track it's location. Tie it to your wrist. You will never loose it then and always know it's location.

Ha, I guess the answer is no... unless you can see/feel it?

If you are paranoid, the only way to be sure to avoid tracking would be to remove the battery.

I imagine that there might be a backdoor built-in that could use reserve battery power to active once every X (24?) hours to check-in to the nearest cell tower.

If you want to be really sure, remove your battery so no application could wake up the phone and send location without your permission.

That being said, unless you are in the spy business or are worried about being tracked, this is a very far-fetched, TV/Movie idea that anyone would want/need to track you in this way.

Removing the battery from an iPhone is sort of a pain.  It wasn't really designed to be user-removable.

Agreed - I was thinking of my old blackberry where I could remove the battery, but with an iPhone you can't easily remove the battery.
