I am unable to connetc to the printers on one of my Windows server 2008 machines via IP address. I can connect if I browse to the sever via name e.g. \\server-name but if I try to browse to the server via either IP address \\ or \\ as it has 2 x interfaces i get the following error:

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server. For more information, click Help."

I have also uploaded a screne shot of the error.

    Accepted Solution

Looks like a printer that might be listed in Active directory, and unless you are referencing the printer using the UNC path, it will not connect.

It makes sense though, if you connect to an IP address, it will try and connect on the printer ports, such as :9100, whereas when connecting to the Domain controller, it would connect using standard Windows CIFS networking, then map out to the printer.
