How to know the backup status of VM on vSphere 4 ?

Hi People,

I'd like to know is it possible to query the VCenter database log or something to know which VM gets backed up by the backup software ?

Because I notice that when my backup application start to backup my VM it creates an event (snapshot event). SO I wonder if this is can be queried or viewed using Powershell or any sort ?

Thanks.

What backup software do you use? Would it not be easier just to look at the backup software logs?

You could also set vCenter, if you are using it to setup a Snapshot Alarm, and email you.

Most backup technologies use the Storage API, to take a Snapshot before Backup.

But I agree with @Neilsr: what Backup software are you using, wouldn't be easier to check that?

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

Does HP Data Protector have no Logs or Reporting?

well sometimes it doesn't reports which VM gets backed up properly or which one doesn't that is why it is not trusted :-/

Snapshot Events will not give you that info.

It will just tell you a Snapshot was created and deleted, but not wherther the backup was successful.
