Wireless power output

hi all,

I am looking for specs on the Netgear WGR614 and the Vigor 2830n.

I have a client who has a WGR614 but has very  poor receptin in many parts of the office. I am looking at replacing with a 2830n but want to make sure the power is a significant increase.

any help greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hello Gareth,
those two models are not in the same ligue and normally Vigor should give you better signal.
Their default specs says that they have similar power of signal (2dbi).
However Vigor is newer model using newer technology (802.11n) so it's signal should be more consistent. You can also replace default antennas with bigger ones in order to amplify your signal (5db,7db and 10db).

The signal strenght is not all. You need to check your client's location and see if the walls are too thick or have metal contruction in them as this reduce signal considerably.
And than, sometimes there are compatibility issues between Wifi router/Ap and wifi cards.

Wifi is not exact science and it is more try & see technique.
So, if you can check his location, upload the plan maybe, ideally if you can turn back the Wifi device, than try with Vigor but don't exclude others.

I hope this helped you a bit.
